I find the idea of formal gardens very enticing.  The discipline, work & resulting peace that they bring is something that I might one day try to attempt myself.  Whether it’s the search for the perfect cherry blossom in a Japanese garden, the tranquil escape from the city offered by Nan-Lian in Hong Kong or the memorial that is the Dr Sun Yat Sen garden, there is always a peace that exists and balance which can be found even for a few minutes.  Perhaps one day, there might be more than just a few minutes of calm in my world, but for the moment, the adventure continues.  Here are just a few quick snaps as we paid our respects at the Dr Sun  Yat Sen Memorial Garden prior to catching our flight.

Well it’s a day to be active!  We get up super early, beat the tourist rush, get our activities in and get the #$@ out of dodge before noon.  Yep that didn’t happen… stupid tourists having the same plan…  On another note, I wonder if you get danger pay for riding on top?  Hell of a view for lunch though!

Something different for this year as we stopped in Vancouver for Canada Day to take in the celebrations.  Started with a stroll to Granville Island to see some fairs, peruse the wonderful fresh market and we made our way down in the afternoon to Canada Place and the Convention Center.  Beautiful weather, great scenery, and a whole whack of people…. wow, I thought we’d seen busy in our previous travels, but this was a whole new level of shoulder to shoulder beyond anything in Japan or Hong Kong…

We decided Stanley Park would be a good way to cap our activity filled day in Vancouver.  Some rented bikes and helmets from Spokes and off we went.  Well, here’s a piece of advice for all you adventurers – don’t pack 50lbs of camera gear when you plan to ride a bike.  Steering was like pushing a Costco filled shopping cart and the hills are like going up a vertical cliff.  Oh wait, maybe I shouldn’t have picked the cruiser bike…

A super wide panorama of downtown Vancouver looking from Stanley Park near Dead Man’s Island;

Last but not least, my epic failure at an attempt to take a picture backwards, over my shoulder flying down a hill….
